ROI PRECISION was born from my experiences in the world of television and the intersection of monetizing the content that producers create.
I began my career in one of the most storied newsrooms in American broadcast journalism—WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, the newsroom that inspired The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Recruited directly out of college, I entered an environment that produced some of the industry’s most respected journalists, many of whom went on to lead at the network level and at PBS, including FRONTLINE.
I was quickly promoted into the Special Reports unit, where I worked across documentaries, investigative series, and long-form storytelling—immersive, high-impact journalism designed to expose injustice and drive change.
My investigative work often required going undercover:
I posed as a pregnant teenager attempting to sell my unborn child, helping uncover and shutting down an illegal baby-selling ring.
I went undercover as a mentally ill patient during the aftermath of the defunding of state mental institutions, when loosely regulated halfway houses proliferated. Living inside one such facility 24/7 for six weeks, I documented the owner’s ongoing sexual abuse of residents—women who had been unable to bring credible charges due to their mental health status. The investigation led to the loss of his license and a lifetime ban from the industry.
This work—and many of the documentaries and investigative series I contributed to—was recognized with the highest honors in journalism, including Peabody Awards and DuPont-Columbia Awards.
Following my time at WCCO, I co-founded Planet Pictures with my husband and longtime collaborator—a partner in both business and storytelling. Together, we built a lifestyle and documentary production and distribution company focused on original, globally relevant content.
We were commissioned to produce original programming for leading broadcasters including PBS, Discovery, TLC, Ovation, S4C (Wales), and UFA Nonfiction (Germany), among others. Our work spanned formats, cultures, and audiences, combining strong storytelling with a sharp understanding of international markets.
In parallel, we built and curated a catalog of more than 3,000 hours of finished programming, supplying content to emerging and newly launched channels worldwide during a period of rapid global media expansion.
In 2014, I launched Jenny Hayden Media, building on long-standing relationships across the lifestyle and documentary ecosystem. Through this company, I continued to work on behalf of third-party content owners—advising on positioning, packaging, and distribution strategies in an increasingly fragmented media landscape while negotiating and providing licensing deals for these owners resulting in significant monetization of their content.
I also served as a consultant to ShortsTV, as a content acquisition executive for the DirecTV-distributed network dedicated to short-form storytelling across genres—further expanding my work at the intersection of curation, audience, and platform strategy.
